HANNOVER, GERMANY, Feb. 23, 2000 -- SanDisk Corporation (NASDAQ:SNDK), the world's largest supplier of flash data storage products including Secure Digital, CompactFlash™ , MultiMediaCards and SmartMedia, has appointed Hama PVAC Ltd. as distributor for its retail range of products into the office and consumer electronics retail channels in the UK. The announcement was made at the CeBIT 2000 show (SanDisk booth: Hall 13, C-41).
Gerrit Van Hofwegen, SanDisk's European retail sales manager, said, "The number of consumer digital cameras and handheld computers using CompactFlash solid state memory cards now exceeds 150 models. This figure is steadily increasing and represents hundreds of thousands of units that use CompactFlash memory cards."
He added, "Internet MP3 music players, handheld computers, GSM phones, digital cameras, printers and TV set-top boxes are just some of the retail sales opportunities. Hama PVAC is well placed to deliver SanDisk's comprehensive range of CompactFlash, MultiMediaCards, ImageMate™ card readers and other products to the retail channel."
Dave Murray, product manager at Hama PVAC, said, "SanDisk is a strong and high quality brand. With our portfolio, we can bring new opportunities into new business channels for SanDisk."
The appointment of Hama is a perfect fit with SanDisk's other UK distribution channels. While Hama will concentrate on markets such as MP3 players, handheld computers and other consumer electronics goods, Peak Development Ltd will continue to service the digital photography market, an area where the Southampton-based distributor has achieved considerable success in recent years.
